BRUCE, Mildred Mary, British aviator /motor and boat racing enthusiast, 1895-1990. She bought her first aeroplane from a shop in Regent St, London. Mildred was soon running a company called Air Despatch, the first to use air stewardesses. She was also a pioneer of air-to-air refuelling. Mildred held numerous records for solo long-distance motoring and motor boating.
