Mary Shelley
SHELLEY, Mary Wollstoncraft, née Godwin, English novelist, 1797-1851. Mary invented the character Frankenstein in a book in 1818. She has claim to being the inventor of the science-fiction novel. But in any case her Frankenstein creation was here to stay, as a neologism on television/cinema, that did not exist then.
