Marjorie Joyner
JOYNER, Marjorie, American hairdresser, b-1896. She invented a permanent wave machine in 1928, with electric wires, cords and clamps in an overhead dome device. It proved popular but she put the patent in the employer’s name and got no royalties. The employer was a woman, Madam C.J.WALKER, who later made Joyner a senior member of the nationwide company. In 1945 Marjorie founded a Beauty School Trade Association.
