Krysta Morlan
MORLAN, Krysta, American. A young inventor. Suffering from diplegic cerebral palsy, she underwent surgery which was successful. The idea of a full freshman year wearing a plaster cast on both legs was bad enough, but the irritation of the cast in the summer was hardly bearable. Krysta inserted a plastic tube between the cast and the skin. This tube was then attached to a small battery driven air pump, so the skin surface could receive some air-circulation. An adhesive cloth was attached to hold it all in place inconspicuously. The Cast Cooler as she calls it, is now in demand by children and adults. She won a National Inventor Apprenticeship in 1998 and will now concentrate on inventions relating to physical therapy. The immediate application underway is a water bike for fun or therapy.
