Dr Georgina Richards

 

Dr. Georgina A. Richards, B.Sc. (Hons), Solicitor, LL.M. Ph. D. RTMA

 

Dr.Georgina Richards has been a practicising solicitor in the field of intellectual property for over 20 years.  During this time she has worked in both private practice and in-house as well as in a consultancy capacity advising individual inventors, large public companies and various institutions on the protection and commercialisation of their intellectual property including the licensing of various intellectual property rights and  the establishment of start up and spin out companies.

 

Georgina has a science background her first degree being in Physiology obtained from the University of Leeds in 1975 which she followed with a period of research at the University of Cambridge (Lucy Cavendish College and the Physiological Laboratory). Georgina was admitted to the roll as a solicitor in October 1982 having passed the Common Professional Examination (CPE) and Law Society’s Final Examinations and undertaking articles with Hepherd Winstanley & Pugh solicitors in Southampton (now part of Bond Pearce solicitors).  Georgina obtained her LL M   from University College University of London in 1986 and became a Registered Trade Mark Agent in 1994. 

In 1995, following periods of employment with the Law Society and Portals Holdings plc Georgina joined the Commercial Department of Moore Blatch solicitors in Southampton in 1995 as a specialist in intellectual property law and in 1999 Georgina joined the University of Southampton as Senior Legal Adviser at the Centre for Enterprise and Innovation (now Research and Innovation Services).

 

In 2002 Georgina was awarded her PhD from the University of Southampton in respect of her research into the patenting of genetically modified organisms.

 

In 2007 Georgina joined Inflect Technologies Limited as Head of Intellectual Property.
