BRAUN, Emma Lucy, American botanist and geologist, 1889-1971. A professor of plant ecology, who did field studies on the taxonomy of flora in the Cincinnati region, then compared them with data from the same region a century before. Changes in flora were evident over the extended period. Her novel system became widely adopted. In 1950 Emma published ‘Deciduous Forests of Eastern North America’.
