Elizabeth Miller
MILLER, Elizabeth, British dress designer, 1822-1911. The actual designer of the type of dress advocated by Amelia BLOOMER for ladies outdoor activities. In 1851 Elizabeth designed knickerbockers gathered in at the ankles. Her design had been proposed specifically for use when women were cycling. But when Bloomer advocated the use of them for many outdoor activities, they became known as Bloomers to Amelia’s surprise and embarrassment.
